FAQ's

          Proper Care for batteries:

  1.           Ni-Cd Batteries (Nickle/Cadmiun)
The main requirement for good performance and long life is for the battery to be fully "used up" each time before recharging. If recharged this way you can expect up to about 1000 recharges from the battery pack. If you use your radio lightly each day, but recharge every night, your battery will "learn" to recharge only up to about half of it's possible capability. Some call this phenomena "battery memory". The battery does not really have a "memory" of course, it is just a simple chemical reaction in the battery that starts to reduce the amount of charge it will accept. To solve this, you can generally run the battery fully down followed by a full recharge in "slow" mode (repeated a couple of times) to "erase" battery memory and restore full charge capability.
  2.           Li-lon (pronounce it" Lion") batteries do not have this recharge problem and can be used with more freedom and less concern about daily usage. That is one of the main reasons Tekk started using Li-lon batteries on our new models. In addition, Li-lon batteries are much smaller and lighter the Ni-Cad or Ni-MH batteries and this allows us to make the radio much smaller, lighter and easier to use.
  •           How far will the radios talk?

The "true" answer to this is that there is NO one true answer. If you ask us if Tekk radios will talk as far as a Motorola, Kenwood or other product the answer is "yes...and no!" The simple truth is that talk distance is extremely variable based on location (hill, water, buildings, trees etc), how you hold the radio (is the antenna clear of your body or touching your face or waist), power output and quality of antenna. So you will never really know how far you can talk until you try a unit in the actual area you need to work and with the accessories you want to use (like shoulder mics or headsets).

  •           Are these radios compatible with my existing radios?

If you already have Motorola, Kenwood or other products, our units will be compatible and you will be able to confirm it. When comparing different units, make sure three items are the same or at least similar: the power, receiver sensitivity and antenna. No matter what brand you may use, if you use popular accessories like shoulder mics or headsets, if the radio is at your belt area with the antenna touching or very close to your body, the talk distance will be reduced in most cases, but the increased ease of use may be more important then a little lost distance.
